1 Department of Psychiatry at the Missouri Institute of Psychiatry, University of Missouri School of Medicine, 5400 Arsenal St., St. Louis, Mo.

The clinical, neurophysiologic, and laboratory effects of a new dibenzoxepine, P-5227, were compared with those of perphenazine. P-5227 was shown to have a greater antipsychotic effect than perphenazine. The importance of patient selection criteria and analysis of changes in a group of patients concurrently treated with placebo in all drug studies is emphasized. it is suggested that other compounds of similar structure be investigated.

Note:

We would like to thank Dr. Shapiro, D.Sc., for the statistical analysis and J. Townsend, R.N., and L. Wolin, R.N., for their assistance.
