1 Veterans Administration Hospital, Palo Alto, Cal. 94304.
Molindone, a new indolic derivative, was given to 30 hospitalized psychiatric patients, most newly admitted. The responses of 24 schizophrenic patients were quite variable but adequate to establish definite antipsychotic activity. Although a wide range of doses was explored (30 to 300 mg daily), it is still not certain that the optimum use of the drug was made. Restlessness or akathisia was the most frequent and discomforting side effect.
Note:
Dr. John E. Overall, Research Professor of Psychiatry, University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas, assisted in the analysis of data. Supplies of molindone were provided by Endo Laboratories, Inc., Garden City, L.I., N.Y.
