Delivery of education in better therapeutics to physicians is more difficult because many physicians develop a false sense of confidence in their prescribing expertise. It is difficult for physicians to realize that remedies relied on for years may be inferior to the best that can now be offered. Epidemiological studies of drug usage provide information that the medical profession follows an irrational path in certain therapies. Correction of faulty prescribing habits can best be achieved by laws mandating specific corrective courses with proper evaluation of effectiveness.
