The effects of aspirin, naproxen, and placebo on bleeding time and platelet aggregation were determined in 19 adult male volunteers. Both aspirin and naproxen prolonged the bleeding time; this effect was still apparent 96 hours after the last dose of aspirin, but not after the last dose of naproxen. Collagen-induced platelet aggregation in citrated platelet-rich plasma was inhibited after either aspirin or naproxen. Aspirin abolished the normal biphasic aggregation curve of washed platelets induced by thrombin, while naproxen did not alter this parameter of platelet function.
