Because of its antidepressant activity, somewhat less than that of imipramine in the patient group studied, and its low order of side effects, A-10749 deserves further investigation as a clinically useful drug. As an antidepressant similar in its effects to imipramine (using the modified DOPA test), but with other significantly different properties chemically and pharmacologically, A-10749 also deserves further study, particularly in terms of its effect on tryptophan metabolism.

Note:

The authors wish to express their appreciation to E. Dixon Holland, M.D., Associate Director, Abbott Laboratories Scientific Division, North Chicago, Illinois.
