Methodological Considerations in the Histamine Skin Test

Data are presented showing that despite high reproducibility, the histamine skin test is highly variable. The wheal and flare responses are independent variables. Methodological considerations are suggested for the design of a comparative antihistamine trial when using the wheal response as a bioassay test.
